THE THIRD BOOK OF NEFI Chapter 8

  1. Behold, now it came to pass that when Yeshua had spoken these words, he looked round about again on the multitude and he said unto them, Behold, my time is at hand. I perceive that you are weak, that you cannot understand all my words which I am commanded of the Father to speak unto you at this time; therefore, go unto your homes, and ponder171 upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that you may understand and prepare your minds for tomorrow, and I will come unto you again. But now I go unto the Father, and also to show myself unto the lost tribes172 of Isra’el, for they are not lost unto the Father, for he knows where he has taken them.
  2. And it came to pass that when Yeshua had thus spoken, he cast his eyes round about again on the multitude, and beheld they were in tears and did look steadfastly upon him, as if they would ask him to remain a little longer with them. And he said unto them, Behold, my bowels are filled with compassion towards you. Have you any that are sick among you? Bring them here. Have you any that are lame, or blind, or crippled, or maimed, or leprous, or that are withered, or that are deaf, or that are afflicted in any manner? Bring them here and I will heal them, for I have compassion upon you, my bowels are filled with mercy; for I perceive that you desire that I should show unto you what I have done unto your brothers at Yerushalayim, for I see that your faith is sufficient that I should heal you.
  3. And it came to pass that when he had thus spoken, all the multitude with one accord did go forth with their sick, and their afflicted, and their lame, and with their blind, and with their dumb, and with all they that were afflicted in any manner; and he did heal173 them, every one, as they were brought forth unto him. And they did all — both they who had been healed and they who were whole — bow down at his feet and did worship him; and as many as could come for the multitude did kiss his feet, insomuch that they did bathe his feet with their tears.
  4. And it came to pass that he commanded that their little children should be brought; so they brought their little children and sat them down upon the ground round about him, and Yeshua stood in the midst. And the multitude gave way until they had all been brought unto him. And it came to pass that when they had all been brought and Yeshua stood in the midst, he commanded the multitude that they should kneel down upon the ground. And it came to pass that when they had knelt upon the ground, Yeshua groaned within himself, and said, Father, I am troubled because of the wickedness of the people of the house of Isra’el. And when he had said these words, he himself also knelt upon the earth, and behold, he prayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed cannot be written; and the multitude did bear record, who heard him. And after this manner do they bear record: The eye has never seen, neither has the ear heard174 before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Yeshua speak unto the Father. And no tongue can speak,175 neither can there be written176 by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Yeshua speak. And no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father.
  5. And it came to pass that when Yeshua had made an end of praying unto the Father, he arose, but so great was the joy of the multitude that they were overcome. And it came to pass that Yeshua spoke unto them and told them to arise. And they arose from the earth, and he said unto them, Blessed are you because of your faith.177 And now behold, my joy is full. And when he had said these words, he wept, and the multitude bore record of it. And he took their little children, one by one, and blessed them and prayed unto the Father for them. And when he had done this, he wept again. And he spoke unto the multitude, and said unto them, Behold your little ones. And as they looked to behold, they cast their eyes towards Heaven, and they saw the Heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of Heaven, as it were in the midst of fire.178 And they came down and encircled those little ones about — and they were encircled about with fire — and the angels did minister unto them. And the multitude did see, and hear, and bear record; and they know that their record is true, for they, all of them, did see and hear, every man for himself. And they were in number about two thousand and five hundred souls,179 and they did consist of men, women, and children.
  6. And it came to pass that Yeshua commanded his talmidim that they should bring forth some matzah180 and wine181 unto him. And while they were gone for matzah and wine, he commanded the multitude that they should sit themselves down upon the earth. And when the talmidim had come with matzah and wine, he took of the matzah, and broke and blessed it, and he gave unto the talmidim and commanded that they should eat. And when they had eaten and were filled, he commanded that they should give unto the multitude. And when the multitude had eaten and were filled, he said unto the talmidim, Behold, there shall one be ordained among you, and to him will I give power that he shall break matzah and bless it, and give it unto the people of my assembly, unto all those who shall believe and be immersed in my name. And this shall you always observe to do, even as I have done,182 even as I have broken matzah and blessed it, and given it unto you. And this shall you do in remembrance of my body which I have shown unto you. And it shall be a testimony unto the Father that you do always remember me. And if you do always remember me, you shall have my spirit to be with you.
  7. And it came to pass that when he had said these words, he commanded his talmidim that they should take of the wine of the cup and drink of it,183 and that they should also give unto the multitude that they might drink of it. And it came to pass that they did so, and did drink of it and were filled. And they gave unto the multitude, and they did drink and they were filled. And when the talmidim had done this, Yeshua said unto them, Blessed are you for this thing which you have done, for this is fulfilling my mitzvot, and this does witness unto the Father that you are willing to do that which I have commanded you. And this shall you always do unto those who repent and are washed by immersion in my name; and you shall do it in remembrance of my blood which I have shed184 for you, that you may witness unto the Father that you do always remember me. And if you do always remember me, you shall have my spirit to be with you. And I give unto you a mitzvah that you shall do these things, and if you shall always do these things, blessed are you, for you are built upon my rock. But whoever among you shall do more or less than these are not built upon my rock,185 but are built upon a sandy foundation. And when the rain descends, and the floods come, and the winds blow and beat upon them, they shall fall, and the gates of She’ol are already open to receive them. Therefore, blessed are you if you shall keep my mitzvot which the Father has commanded me that I should give unto you. Truly, truly I say unto you, you must watch and pray always,186 for fear that you be tempted by HaSatan and you are led away captive by him. And as I have prayed among you, even so shall you pray in my assembly, among my people who do repent and are immersed in my name. Behold, I am the light; I have set an example for you.
  8. And it came to pass that when Yeshua had spoken these words unto his talmidim, he turned again unto the multitude and said unto them, Behold, truly, truly I say unto you, you must watch and pray always so that you do not enter into temptation, for HaSatan desires to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; therefore, you must always pray unto the Father in my name. And whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that you shall receive, behold, it shall be given unto you. Pray in your families unto the Father always in my name, that your wives and your children may be blessed. And behold, you shall meet together often,187 and you shall not forbid any man from coming unto you when you shall meet together, but allow them that they may come unto you, and forbid them not. But you shall pray for them, and shall not cast them out, and if it so be that they come unto you often, you shall pray for them unto the Father in my name. Therefore, hold up your light, that it may shine unto the world. Behold, I am the light which you shall hold up, that which you have seen me do. Behold, you see that I have prayed unto the Father, and you all have witnessed. And you see that I have commanded that none of you should go away, but rather have commanded that you should come unto me, that you might feel and see; even so shall you do unto the world. And whosoever breaks this mitzvah allows himself to be led into temptation.
  9. And now it came to pass that when Yeshua had spoken these words, he turned his eyes again upon the talmidim whom he had chosen, and said unto them, Behold, truly, truly I say unto you, I give unto you another mitzvah, and then I must go unto my Father, that I may fulfill other mitzvot which he has given me. And now behold, this is the mitzvah which I give unto you, that you shall not allow anyone knowingly to partake of my flesh and blood unworthily188 when you shall administer it. For whoever eats and drinks my flesh and blood unworthily eats and drinks damnation to his soul;189 therefore, if you know that a man is unworthy to eat and drink of my flesh and blood, you shall forbid him. Nevertheless, you shall not cast him out from among you, but you shall minister unto him and shall pray for him unto the Father in my name; and if it so be that he repents and is washed by immersion in my name, then shall you receive him and shall administer unto him of my flesh and blood. But if he repent not, he shall not be numbered among my people, that he may not destroy my people. For behold, I know my sheep190 and they are numbered. Nevertheless, you shall not cast him out of your synagogues or your places of worship, for unto such shall you continue to minister; for you know not but that they will return and repent and come unto me with full purpose of heart,191 and I shall heal them, and you shall be the means of bringing salvation unto them. Therefore, keep these sayings which I have commanded you, that you come not under condemnation, for woe unto him whom the Father condemns. And I give you these mitzvot because of the disputations192 which have been among you. And blessed are you if you have no disputations among you. And now I go unto the Father because it is expedient that I should go unto the Father for your sakes.
  10. And it came to pass that when Yeshua had made an end of these sayings, he touched with his hand the talmidim whom he had chosen, one by one, even until he had touched them all, and spoke unto them as he touched them. And the multitude heard not the words which he spoke, therefore they did not bear record, but the talmidim bore record that he gave them power to give the Ruach HaKodesh. And I will show unto you hereafter that this record is true.193 And it came to pass that when Yeshua had touched them all, there came a cloud194 and overshadowed the multitude, that they could not see Yeshua. And while they were overshadowed, he departed from them and ascended into Heaven. And the talmidim saw and did bear record that he ascended again into Heaven.
